Dallas Burrow Announces Modern Day Vagabond Album, Set for September 25 Release

On a crisp Texas morning, Dallas Burrow revealed that his next studio project, Modern Day Vagabond, will arrive on September 25 through Forty Below Records. The release brings a constellation of seasoned country and Americana musicians to the forefront, promising a sound that is as collaborative as it is personal.

The album’s foundation rests on the production partnership of Red Dirt stalwart Mike McClure and Grammy‑winning engineer Adam Odor, who worked together at Yellow Dog Studios in Texas. McClure’s signature grit is complemented by Odor’s polished touch, creating a sonic backdrop that supports Burrow’s songwriting. The record features organ from Kullen Fox of Charley Crockett’s Blue Drifters, guitar work by Mark Tokach and Larry Chaney, and a steady pulse from drummer Cameron Martin. Guest spots add further depth: legendary songwriter Susan Gibson joins on the title track, Kelly Willis appears on two songs, and the duo of Kelley Mickwee and Will Sexton delivers a duet on “Miracle.” The final track, a cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “Rake,” sees Donny Silverman on flute and Burrow’s own father on vocal harmony.

Burrow’s career has been built on a dual focus of songwriting and community building. He founded the Red Bird Listening Room in New Braunfels, a venue modeled after the Cheatham Street Warehouse that hosts songwriter circles and showcases local talent. His role as host for songwriter rounds at the Ameripolitan Awards and Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion further cements his position as a key figure in Texas’s songwriting scene.

With 14 tracks, the album offers a mix of introspective ballads and spirited anthems. The title track, featuring Susan Gibson, opens the set, while “Let It Shine” and “Walking Side by Side” highlight Kelly Willis’s contributions. “Miracle” showcases the vocal chemistry between Mickwee and Sexton, and “Whole Different Angle” features McClure’s guitar work. The closing “Rake” cover serves as a nod to Burrow’s connection to the legacy of Townes Van Zandt.

To celebrate the forthcoming release, Burrow will headline a performance at Gruene Hall on September 4 with the West Texas Exiles. The choice of venue is significant, as the artist had been barred from Gruene Hall twice earlier in his career. The show marks a symbolic return to a space that once rejected him.

Before the album drops, Burrow released the single “Underdog.” The track reflects on his outsider status in the music industry, drawing parallels to the character Dally from The Outsiders. The lyricism underscores how being an underdog has shaped his songwriting perspective.

The album is currently available for pre‑save and pre‑order on major streaming platforms. Fans can also stream “Underdog” on Spotify and other services.

Burrow’s work has earned him respect from peers and audiences alike. His 2021 self‑titled album Dallas Burrow positioned him as a respected voice in Central Texas, and the new roster of collaborators signals a broader reach within the Americana and country genres.

Modern Day Vagabond arrives at a time when the Texas songwriting community is gaining national attention. Burrow’s dual role as performer and facilitator positions him as a bridge between emerging artists and established names. The album’s release through Forty Below Records, a label known for championing Texas talent, aligns with this mission.

The September 4 Gruene Hall show will offer a live preview of the new material and a chance for listeners to experience Burrow’s music in a historic setting. After the release, Burrow is expected to continue touring regionally, though dates beyond the Gruene Hall performance have not yet been announced.

In sum, Dallas Burrow’s Modern Day Vagabond is a collaborative project that showcases his songwriting credentials and influence within the Texas music scene. The album’s September 25 release, the accompanying Gruene Hall performance, and the involvement of notable artists all underscore Burrow’s growing stature in Americana and country music.
