Stephen Sanchez Cancels Oceania and U.S. Tour Dates, Blames Creative Burnout and Criticises Pop Music

On June 15, 2026, 23‑year‑old singer‑songwriter Stephen Sanchez announced the abrupt cancellation of his planned Oceania tour and an unannounced U.S. tour slated for the summer. In a lengthy post on his social‑media accounts, Sanchez cited personal struggles and creative burnout linked to the production of his second studio album, Love, Love, Love, as the driving factors behind the decision.

The announcement followed a European tour that wrapped up in May and a performance at Capital’s Summertime Ball in London on June 6. Although the artist had previously confirmed dates in New Zealand and Australia, the statement clarified that the cancellations were made without a public explanation. Sanchez apologized to fans who had booked travel and accommodations, writing, “I’m truly sorry for that.”

According to the post, Sanchez spent most of 2025 working on Love, Love, Love. He described the process as a “never‑ending conflict, stress, anxiety, and overall deeply negative energy” that “absolutely ruined this music for me.” The artist added that the experience nearly pushed him to quit making music altogether. He noted that touring in Europe and the U.K. did not alter his outlook.

Sanchez also used the platform to criticize contemporary pop music and the role of social media in the industry. He wrote that many of the songs he heard during the album’s production contained “disgusting, heavily pornographic lyrics” and lacked substance, describing them as “catchy” but ultimately shallow. He further argued that success in the current market depends largely on constant social‑media presence, “shocking looks or writing, and viral moments.” The singer declared that he was “done with that” and would instead focus on creating art on his own terms.

The statement ended with a promise to return when he feels he has created a space for himself. Sanchez thanked his listeners for their support and said he would “come back when I feel that I’ve created that space for myself.” No official comment has been issued by his management.

Sanchez’s career began with the single “Until I Found You,” released in September 2021. The track peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned nominations for Billboard Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards in 2023. His debut studio album, Angel Face, dropped in September 2023 and was followed by a deluxe edition in April 2024. Love, Love, Love was released on May 8, 2026, through Mercury Records and was supported by the “Sweet Love” single.

The artist’s decision to cancel the Oceania and U.S. tours follows a pattern of intense touring schedules that have coincided with periods of creative pressure. While the specific reasons for the cancellations remain personal, the public statement highlights a broader frustration with the commercial demands of the pop music industry and the influence of social media on artistic output.

At present, fans and industry observers are left without a clear timeline for a potential return. Sanchez’s next public appearance or release has not been announced, and no further updates have been provided by his representatives.

The cancellations underscore the growing conversation around artist wellbeing, creative autonomy, and the pressures of maintaining a global touring presence in an era dominated by streaming and social‑media metrics.
