Drown In Sulphur Unveils New Single "Groan From The IXth Circle" Ahead of September EP
On 31 July 2026, Italian deathcore outfit Drown In Sulphur dropped the single and accompanying music video “Groan From The IXth Circle” through German label Noble Demon. The track is a pre‑release for the band’s forthcoming EP Strix, which will arrive on 11 September 2026 across all major streaming services.
The single arrives two months after the band’s first EP cut, “New Moon Rising On Florence,” which was issued in June. Both songs are part of the same five‑track collection, which also contains “Neither Night Nor Day,” “Oscolum Infame,” and “The Heptad Omen.”
Formed in Milan in 2014 by drummer Domenico Francesco Tamilia, Drown In Sulphur has carved a niche in the underground metal circuit. Musically, “Groan From The IXth Circle” is described by the band as a reinterpretation of Lucifer’s fall in Dante’s Inferno. According to the band, the song navigates the freezing depths of the Ninth Circle—Cocytus—through a “pure Deathcore assault blended with glacial Black Metal riffing that sonically channels the landscape’s eternal frost.” The lyrics also pose a “provocative moral dilemma” that questions the nature of betrayal between the entity that granted humanity knowledge and a ruler intent on keeping them enslaved.
The EP signals a deliberate shift toward a less symphonic, more hardcore sound. The band says that Strix will fuse nostalgic MySpace‑era deathcore with grim black metal influences, setting the tone for future releases. The five tracks are:
