Ninajirachi and Porter Robinson Release WannaCry Ahead of Major Festival Tour

Ninajirachi and Porter Robinson have dropped their first official collaboration, the single “WannaCry,” just ahead of a string of high‑profile festival dates, including Lollapalooza in Chicago and Hinterland Music Festival in Iowa. The track, which had previously been teased live at Coachella, Primavera Sound, EDC Las Vegas, Project Glow, Dark Mofo and Dark Crystal, is now available for streaming and download.

The partnership stretches back more than a decade. Ninajirachi, the Australian electronic producer, recalls that Porter Robinson’s 2013 show at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre was the first live performance she ever attended as a teenager. In July, she returned to the same venue to headline a sold‑out Dark Crystal V show, closing a full circle that has now blossomed into a recording collaboration.

“WannaCry” adopts an unconventional lyrical premise, narrating the tale from the viewpoint of the 2017 WannaCry ransomware attack that crippled computers worldwide. Rather than recounting the cyber‑attack itself, the duo reimagines the virus in a fictional narrative, a nod to their shared fascination with internet culture and the digital underpinnings of modern electronic music.

For Porter Robinson, the collaboration adds another chapter to a career that has traversed electronic and pop territories. After releasing the electro‑house EP Spitfire in 2011 and the studio album Worlds in 2014, Robinson has continued to evolve. His recent output includes the 2021 album Nurture, the 2024 release Smile! :D, the Gold‑certified collaboration “Shelter” with Madeon and the Virtual Self project, which earned a 2017 Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording.

Ninajirachi’s debut album I Love My Computer, issued through NLV Records, garnered critical acclaim and cemented her status as a leading Australian electronic producer. The album earned her three ARIA Awards and paved the way for performances at Coachella and sold‑out headline shows under her Dark Crystal banner.

The timing of “WannaCry” dovetails with a packed touring schedule for Ninajirachi. She will take the stage at Lollapalooza on July 30, then debut at Hinterland Music Festival on July 31. Her itinerary will continue across Europe, North America and Australia, including support slots with Tame Impala later in the year.

The collaboration also mirrors a wider trend of Australian electronic artists gaining international exposure through festival runs and cross‑border partnerships. Both musicians draw heavily on internet culture, pop songwriting and contemporary electronic production, making “WannaCry” a meeting of artists whose careers have evolved in parallel across the Pacific.

The single is now accessible on major streaming platforms and can be purchased digitally. Ninajirachi and Porter Robinson have not announced further releases, but dropping the track ahead of their festival appearances signals a focus on live‑performance promotion.
