Crossroads Music Names Scott Wagner President/CEO and Jon Weisberger Chairman After Mickey Gambles Death

Crossroads Music announced on 30 April 2026 that Scott Wagner will serve as President and Chief Executive Officer and Jon Weisberger will become Chairman of the Board, following the death of co‑founder and longtime CEO Mickey Gamble.

Gamble, who died at age 81 in April, had guided Crossroads Music and its four record labels—Horizon Records, Sonlite Records, Mountain Home Music Company, and Organic Records—through a period of growth that included a roster of southern gospel, bluegrass, folk and Americana artists. The company’s headquarters are located in western North Carolina, a region that has long been a hub for the genres Gamble championed.

The new leadership structure splits Gamble’s former responsibilities between Wagner and Weisberger. Wagner brings two decades of experience with Crossroads and a broader background in the record business, having held senior roles at Pamplin Music Group, WEA Christian, EMI Christian (now Capitol Christian) and Spectra Distribution. Weisberger, who joined Crossroads in 2019 as an A&R director, has a career that spans performing, songwriting, studio production, broadcasting and journalism, and he has twice earned the IBMA Songwriter of the Year award.

In a statement, Wagner said, “Crossroads has always had a commitment to great music, great artists, lasting relationships, and forward thinking. As we look ahead, I’m focused on continuing that legacy and creating opportunities for the next generation of artists and industry leaders. I’m excited to continue to work alongside our team as we build on our strong foundation.”

Weisberger echoed Gamble’s vision, noting that the former CEO “believed strongly in music’s ability to foster community, building a company committed to supporting a wide‑ranging roster—a family, he often said—of legends, leaders and developing artists in the southern gospel, bluegrass, folk and Americana fields.” He added that he looks forward to continuing that work with the talented people at Crossroads.

The appointment of Wagner and Weisberger follows a period of transition for Crossroads. The company has been described as one of the most influential independent music groups in its genres, and its labels have released recordings from a range of artists who have achieved chart success and critical acclaim. The leadership change is expected to maintain the company’s focus on artist development and genre‑specific marketing while preserving the relationships that have been central to its success.

Crossroads’ four labels each serve distinct niches: Horizon Records focuses on contemporary gospel, Sonlite Records specializes in bluegrass, Mountain Home Music Company releases folk and Americana, and Organic Records supports emerging talent across the spectrum. The company’s structure allows it to nurture artists from discovery through distribution while maintaining a cohesive brand identity.

The company’s announcement was made through a press release on its website and was covered by industry outlets such as Bluegrass Today, MusicRow and Singing News. No immediate plans for a new artist signing or release schedule were disclosed, but the leadership team has indicated that it will continue to support its existing roster and pursue new opportunities.

As Crossroads Music moves forward under Wagner’s executive leadership and Weisberger’s chairmanship, the organization remains committed to its founding principles of community, quality music and artist development. The transition marks a new chapter for the company while honoring the legacy of Mickey Gamble, whose vision helped shape the independent gospel and bluegrass landscape.
