The HU Unveil Third Album HUN, Set for July 24 Release
The Mongolian folk‑metal group The HU announced that their third full‑length album, HUN, will be released on July 24 2026 through Better Noise Music. The band has made the album available for pre‑order and pre‑save on its official website.
HUN contains eleven tracks that blend traditional Mongolian instrumentation—such as the morin khuur and throat singing—with hard‑rock and metal elements. The album’s release follows the band’s 2022 record Rumble of Thunder and the 2019 debut The Gereg. According to the band’s statement, the new material expands the scope of hunnu rock, a term the group coined to describe its hybrid style.
The first single from the album, “Grey Hun,” was released with an official music video on June 23. The track’s driving percussion and layered vocal harmonies were described by guitarist Enkhsaikhan “Enkush” Batjargal as originating from a riff that evoked a rider on horseback traversing a wide landscape. He added that the band spent time refining the song to ensure its positive message—encouraging listeners to embrace their authentic selves—was clearly communicated.
A second single, “Lost Soul,” features guest vocals from Jonny Hawkins of the American rock band Nothing More. The collaboration marks the first time the two groups have worked together. The version of “Lost Soul” that appears on the digital release of HUN includes Hawkins’ contribution; a separate version of the track is not listed on the physical edition.
The album’s track list is as follows: 1. Warrior Chant 2. Lost Soul 3. The Men 4. Echoes of My Father 5. Shadow 6. Horsemen 7. Greed 8. The Real You 9. Grey Hun 10. Universe 11. Second Face
The HU’s rise began in 2016 when the quartet—Galbadrakh “Gala” Tsendbaatar, Nyamjantsan “Jaya” Galsanjamts, Enkush, and Temuulen “Temka” Naranbaatar—formed in Ulaanbaatar. Their music incorporates traditional Mongolian instruments and throat‑singing techniques, and their lyrics often reference ancient war cries and poetry. In 2019, the group received a mention from NPR, which helped broaden their international profile.
Better Noise Music, the label that will distribute HUN, was founded in 2006 by Allen Kovac. The company has a roster that includes several rock and metal acts and has been recognized for its work in the active‑rock market. The HU’s partnership with the label follows the band’s previous releases, which were issued through the same imprint.
In a recent press release, the band said it is “focusing on performances and working out a brand‑new setlist” and that it plans to play larger venues to accommodate more elaborate stage production. The group also indicated that it has ideas for a future album beyond HUN.
With the album’s release scheduled for July 24, The HU will likely begin a promotional tour in the months that follow. The band’s management has not yet announced specific dates or supporting acts.
The HU’s announcement of HUN and the release of “Grey Hun” and “Lost Soul” signal the group’s continued expansion into global markets while maintaining its distinctive blend of Mongolian musical heritage and contemporary rock.
