Trails Music in the Park Series Returns to Gyro Park, Opening Thursday with Local Bands
Tonight marks the kickoff of Trail & District Arts Council’s (TDAC) 2026 season of Kootenay Savings Music in the Park, a weekly, free‑entry concert series that will run every Thursday from June 25 through August 13 at Gyro Park in Trail, British Columbia. The first show features the Trail Maple Leaf Band, the Trail Pipe Band, and B. McJones Highland Dancers, a lineup that blends contemporary concert‑band repertoire with traditional piping and dance.
The 13‑show season is punctuated by four special events that broaden the program’s appeal. Two Night Markets—scheduled for July 16 and August 13—will add a culinary and artisanal dimension to the evenings. RemarkABILITY Fest, a community celebration of local talent, and Music in the Dark, a nocturnal concert series, are slated to showcase a mix of local musicians and touring acts. All events are produced in partnership with Kootenay Savings Credit Union (KSCU), which has long been the series’ signature sponsor.
The TDAC, a non‑profit that manages the Bailey Theatre and curates more than 50 cultural events each year, has positioned Music in the Park as a cornerstone of Trail’s summer calendar. The council notes that Gyro Park’s open‑air setting and close proximity to downtown make it an accessible venue for families, students, and visitors from the wider Kootenays region. “Our goal is to create a high‑quality, community‑focused experience that is free to attend,” the TDAC said in a statement. The series will accept donations, with a suggested minimum of $5 per person.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and picnic supplies to enhance the relaxed atmosphere. Should weather or smoke conditions warrant a change of venue, the TDAC will announce a move indoors via its Facebook page no later than 2 p.m. on the day of the concert.
Opening night is a showcase of local heritage. The Trail Maple Leaf Band will perform concert‑band pieces and marches, while the Trail Pipe Band delivers traditional piping tunes that echo the region’s cultural roots. The addition of B. McJones Highland Dancers adds a visual element that underscores Trail’s appreciation for both contemporary and traditional art forms.
The series aligns with the TDAC’s mission to make the arts accessible to all residents. By offering a blend of local and touring musicians, the concerts support regional talent while delivering a diverse program that caters to audiences of all ages. The City of Trail’s events page lists Music in the Park as a key summer offering, noting its ability to attract visitors from across the Kootenays.
As the first Thursday unfolds, the community will experience a vibrant mix of music, dance, and communal celebration. The TDAC will continue to provide updates on weather‑related changes and special event details, ensuring that the series remains a reliable, culturally enriching fixture in Trail’s summer life. The next concert begins tonight, and the series will run through mid‑August, offering residents and visitors a steady stream of free, donation‑based entertainment.
