Oscar Scheller Produces Global Hit Stateside + Zara Larsson for PinkPantheress
London‑born producer Oscar Scheller has become one of pop’s fastest‑rising behind‑the‑scenes talents after crafting the remix of PinkPantheress’ “Stateside” that features Swedish singer Zara Larsson. The track, released in early 2026, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and the Spotify global chart at the same time, and peaked in the top 10 of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. At its height it generated almost 50 million weekly streams worldwide.
The remix is a rework of a song from PinkPantheress’ 2025 mixtape Fancy That, which had already produced the UK‑top‑40 singles “Tonight” and “Stateside”. The remix album Fancy Some More? was issued in October 2025, and Scheller was invited to remix several tracks, including “Girl Like Me” (with Oklou) and “Tonight” (with Jade). It was his take on “Stateside” that was selected for release, and the version that includes Larsson was sent to Scheller after the original track was sent back with the feature.
Scheller first met PinkPantheress in 2021 while she was producing music on GarageBand and posting on SoundCloud and TikTok. He says he recognised a shared musical DNA in her use of samples and interpolation. “I knew as soon as I heard PinkPantheress that we had similar musical DNA from the samples and interpolation, that we had a similar way of thinking,” he told MusicRadar in a June interview. The pair recorded together just before Scheller moved to Los Angeles, where he has since built a long‑standing creative partnership.
The success of the remix surprised Scheller. In the interview he described it as “a pretty oddball song to be a hit” but also a moment he had been hoping for. “It’s the moment that all producers wait for, but I’m just really happy it happened with her, on music that I’m proud of too,” he said.
Despite the track’s massive popularity, a handful of listeners have noted subtle tuning differences between the elements of the remix. Scheller acknowledged the online discussion and defended the choice. “There’s all this discourse online about how everything is out of tune on Stateside,” he said. “I’ve been pleased with that – we need imperfection. It’s like a retaliation to AI and this weird humanless vacuum of sound that people keep pushing down our throats. We need the human touch!”
The remix’s chart performance underscores the continued relevance of remix culture in the streaming era. By pairing a rising UK artist with an established international pop star, the release tapped a global audience that spans the UK, the US, Sweden, and beyond. The track’s simultaneous topping of the Billboard Global 200 and Spotify’s global chart is rare for a remix and highlights the cross‑platform reach of contemporary pop.
Scheller’s work extends beyond PinkPantheress. He has produced four songs on Lily Allen’s West End Girl and collaborated with Kelela and Natanya, among others. His studio setup and production philosophy were explored in a separate MusicRadar feature that also covered his recent work with Lily Allen and Kelela.
As of now, the Stateside + Zara Larsson remix remains a chart‑topping hit. No further releases from the partnership have been announced, but Scheller’s growing portfolio suggests he will continue to shape the sound of pop music in 2026 and beyond.
