Fans and critics alike applauded Lil Nas X for his unforgettable Egyptian-themed performance of ‘Montero (Call Me By Your Name)’ at the BET Awards. The Egyptian-themed performance paid homage to the late Michael Jackson’s “Remember The Time” music video. The highlight of the performance came after the song was over when Lil Nas X shared a kiss with a male dancer on stage shortly after the song had ended. It did not take long for critics to speak out. One Twitter user had this to say, “Don’t use African culture for s***s like this!!!!!!! Respect our ancestors”
Lil Nas X, who has been no stranger to controversy in the past, was quick to stand up to his haters. X took to Twitter to say, “y’all really like to pretend homosexuality didn’t exist in African culture”. He continues to blaze a trail and go beyond the boundaries that all previous artists have stayed within. Many, including myself, have applauded Lil Nas X for his bold actions stating. I wish there was a superstar like him 20 years ago when I was growing up.
