Janet Devlin Unveils Sensual New Single Move A Muscle Recorded at Nashvilles Blackbird Studio

Janet Devlin has just dropped a sultry new single, “Move A Muscle,” complete with a music video that strips away the polish to reveal a more intimate side of the Irish singer‑songwriter.

The track, written with longtime collaborator and producer Angus Parkin, was laid down at Nashville’s Blackbird Studio only 15 days before Devlin flew to the city, according to the artist. In a brief interview, she admitted that she’d never tackled a slow, sensual song before, describing the process as “oddly more vulnerable” than her usual heartbreak‑focused material.

“Sharing my more sensual side to the world is a whole new type of vulnerability,” Devlin said. “I’m totally familiar with sharing my heartache, bad relationships and personal flaws. However, sharing my more sensual side to the world is a whole new type of vulnerability.”

Parkin and Devlin built the track around a central riff that the singer calls an “effortless groove” with minimal instrumentation. The result is a laid‑back, flirtatious song that invites listeners to project their own meanings onto the lyrics. Devlin has said the song could be about staying in bed with a partner, a baby, a puppy, or simply enjoying a quiet moment.

The accompanying video, released on YouTube, shows Devlin moving through everyday spaces—lounging in bed, climbing kitchen worktops, and navigating the frame with freedom and confidence. The visual companion adds a sensual energy that matches the song’s tone.

“Move A Muscle” follows a string of chart‑successful singles. Devlin’s releases have reached #31 on the Big Top 40, #15 on the UK iTunes Charts, and #4 on the iTunes Country Charts. Her earlier singles “Red Flag” and “Best Life” earned month‑long placements on the BBC Radio 2 B List Playlist, with “Best Life” peaking at #38 on the UK Radio Monitor Airplay Top 100.

Devlin’s career began after finishing fifth on the eighth series of The X Factor in 2011. Her debut album, Hide & Seek, entered the UK Top 50 and topped the Indie Breakers Chart. The 2020 release Confessional was paired with an autobiography and reached the Billboard Top 100 in the United States. Blackbird Studio, located in Berry Hill, Tennessee, is one of Nashville’s largest recording facilities and houses a large collection of vintage instruments. Devlin has recorded there multiple times, citing the studio’s reputation as a “dream” for her.

Live appearances continue to support the new single. Devlin performed at In It Together Festival, headlined Belladrum 2026, and played the Country stage at Rock & Ribs. Upcoming shows include the Main Stage at Country Calling on 16 August, an appearance on Ch5’s Jeremy Vine show, and a concert at Newcastle Cathedral on 3 October.

The release of “Move A Muscle” marks a stylistic shift for Devlin, who has built her reputation on emotionally raw songwriting.
