Marcus Miller Announces Five-Date Australian Headline Tour for April 2027

The legendary bassist, composer and producer Marcus Miller is set to return to Australia in April 2027 for a five‑city headline tour that will take him from Perth to Adelaide in a single, tightly‑packed week.

On Tuesday, April 13 the tour opens at Perth’s Riverside Theatre, followed by a Thursday show in Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on April 15. The following day, Friday, April 16, Miller will perform at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, before the weekend’s climax at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Saturday, April 17. The tour concludes Sunday, April 18 at Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre.

Miller’s Australian run comes on the heels of his 2024 appearance at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, where he shared the opening‑night program with pianist Herbie Hancock. The two icons performed separately before joining forces at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl—a rare moment that paired contemporary jazz giants on the same bill. The upcoming tour will focus exclusively on Miller’s own band and catalog, offering audiences a solo showcase rather than a co‑performance with Hancock.

The 60‑year‑old artist’s career began in the early 1980s with the albums Suddenly and Marcus Miller. Since then he has built a substantial solo discography that includes The Sun Don’t Lie, Tales, M², Silver Rain, Marcus, Renaissance, Afrodeezia and Laid Black. The 2001 release M² earned him a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Jazz Album, while his co‑writing and production work on Luther Vandross’s “Power Of Love/Love Power” secured a second Grammy. In the 1980s Miller was the principal songwriter and producer on three Miles Davis albums—Tutu (1986), Music From Siesta (1987) and Amandla (1989). His bass playing has appeared on more than 500 recordings, including work with Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, David Sanborn, George Benson, Chaka Khan, Bill Withers, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, Bryan Ferry, Eric Clapton, Michael Jackson and Beyoncé.

Beyond performance, Miller has composed scores for films such as Siesta, House Party, Boomerang, Above The Rim, The Great White Hype, The Brothers, Head Of State, Obsessed, Marshall, Sidney and Candy Cane Lane. In 2012 he was appointed a UNESCO Artist For Peace and has supported the organization’s Slave Route Project.

Miller’s live work has included collaborations with Eric Clapton, David Sanborn, Joe Sample and Steve Gadd in the touring group Legends (1997) and the bass trio SMV with Stanley Clarke and Victor Wooten, which released the album Thunder and toured internationally.
