Maki and James Reid Release Bilingual Single "Luck" on Digital Platforms

Maki and James Reid just dropped a bilingual pop single that blends Tagalog and English and marks the first time the two Filipino performers have teamed up. The track, “Luck,” hit all major streaming services on July 30 2026, and a music video shot by Tarsier Records followed shortly after.

The collaboration arrives on the heels of Maki’s May single “Habangbuhay Pansamantala,” which featured SB19’s Justin. According to a release from Tarsier Records, “Luck” is a love song in which the singers ask a potential partner for a chance to test their luck.

Maki, whose birth name is Ralph William Datoon, rose to national prominence with the viral 2023 EP Tanong, which included the hits “Saan?” and “Bakit?”. He signed with Tarsier Records in 2021 and broke into the mainstream with 2024’s “Dilaw,” which entered Spotify’s global chart and topped the relaunched Billboard Philippines Hot 100. His debut studio album Kolorcoaster (September 2025) featured tracks such as “Turning Green,” “Dilaw,” “Namumula,” and “Kahel na Langit,” and was followed by a tour that visited Singapore and Indonesia in June 2025.

James Reid, born in 1993, is an Australian‑born Filipino actor and singer who first gained attention with the 2014 film Diary ng Panget. He has released two studio albums—Palm Dreams (2017) and lovescene: (2022)—and several EPs, and he operates under his own label, Careless.

The “Luck” music video was filmed in a stylised office set lit with pink and green hues. It shows the duo performing choreographed dance moves while playfully chasing one another, echoing the song’s theme of taking a chance on love. A lyric video was released on July 31 2026, and a pre‑save link was distributed through Tarsier Records’ social media channels.

Tarsier Records’ release strategy for “Luck” focused on digital distribution: the single went live on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, and other platforms at 9 p.m. local time on the release date.

Maki has scheduled a performance at the LALALA Fest in August 2026, a multi‑genre festival that has hosted both local and international acts. The collaboration with Reid is expected to broaden his exposure to audiences that follow Reid’s music and acting career.

At present, “Luck” has been added to streaming playlists and is beginning to accumulate streams, though chart positions have not yet been reported. The single’s release follows a pattern of strategic releases by Tarsier Records that has positioned Maki as a rising pop artist in the Philippine market.

The partnership between Maki and James Reid represents a cross‑genre collaboration within the OPM scene, combining pop sensibilities with bilingual lyricism. The release adds to the growing catalog of Filipino artists who are leveraging digital platforms to reach wider audiences.

The current status is that “Luck” is available for streaming, the music video has been published on YouTube, and Maki is preparing for his LALALA Fest appearance in August. No further releases or tour dates have been announced at this time.
