Black Bordello Unveils Midheaven Tempest EP, Drops Lead Single Fugue

Black Bordello, the South East London art‑rock outfit, announced that its third EP, Midheaven Tempest, will be released on 18 September 2026 through the independent distributor AWAL. The announcement came alongside the release of the EP’s first single, “Fugue,” which debuted on 18 July 2026.

The band’s lineup is anchored by front‑woman and guitarist Sienna Bordello, who writes the group’s theatrical lyrics and vocal melodies. The rhythm section is completed by drummer Daniel Gowers, who also provides backing vocals, bassist Nick Dimitriov, and keyboardist Melody Wayfare, who adds harmonic depth and additional backing vocals. Lead guitar duties are handled by Jerome Alexandre. Together, the five musicians have built a reputation for blending experimental rock with theatrical stagecraft.

“Fugue” is described as a psych‑rock escapade that moves between Velvet Underground‑style fuzz, the brooding atmosphere of Black Heart Procession, and Nick Cave‑esque refrains. The track showcases Sienna Bordello’s dramatic vocal delivery and vivid songwriting. In an interview with Vent Magazine, Bordello explained that the song is “a joyful stab into the cardboard cutouts on the set of society’s stage. It’s our gift to music nerds, inspired by Bach.” The single’s production features layered textures that hint at the darker, more expansive sound the EP promises.

The full EP is produced by Balazs Altsach, whose work on Midheaven Tempest expands the band’s sonic palette. According to the press release, the record blends industrial textures, trip‑hop ambience, gothic rock elements, and chamber‑music arrangements into a cohesive yet unsettled whole. The production choices aim to push the group beyond the theatrical rock foundation that has defined earlier releases.

AWAL, the distribution platform chosen for the release, is a full‑service distributor for independent artists. Powered by Kobalt and owned by Sony, AWAL offers artists control over their catalog while providing global streaming and sales distribution. Black Bordello’s use of AWAL aligns with the band’s independent status and allows them to retain creative control over Midheaven Tempest.

The EP follows a string of singles that have kept the band in the public eye, including “Daddy,” which was promoted with a headline performance at London’s 100 Club in February 2026. The upcoming release is expected to solidify Black Bordello’s position within the contemporary art‑rock scene and to showcase their continued evolution toward darker, more complex musical territory.

At present, Midheaven Tempest is scheduled for worldwide digital release on 18 September 2026. The band has not announced a supporting tour or additional promotional events, but the EP’s release through AWAL will make it available on major streaming platforms and digital stores worldwide.

The EP’s launch marks the next chapter in Black Bordello’s career, offering fans a new collection that builds on the band’s theatrical roots while exploring broader sonic landscapes.
