Leon Bridges Announces New Album Happiness Anytime for September 15 Release

Leon Bridges has just dropped the first four songs from his forthcoming fifth studio album, Happiness Anytime, and set a September 15 release date with Columbia Records.

The 12‑track project arrives in three EP‑style installments, each featuring four songs. The debut batch, released today, contains “Light The Way,” “Tears of Joy,” “Illusion,” and “Your Love Is Electric.” Bridges has said the remaining eight tracks will follow the same pattern, letting listeners build the full album over time.

Production credits read like a mini‑all‑star roster: British trio Jungle’s J Lloyd‑Watson and Lydia Kitto co‑engineered the sound, while bassist Pino Palladino, known for work with D’Angelo and Adele, joined the sessions. The trio’s collaboration began after a handful of studio meetings that produced most of the material.

To drum up anticipation, Bridges has been staging pop‑up shows in key cities. He performed in Paris, Cannes, Los Angeles, London, and at the Montreux Jazz Festival. In London, he took the stage in Camden on Thursday, July 16, and is slated to return on Friday, July 17. These brief appearances are part of a broader strategy to generate buzz ahead of the September release.

Musically, Happiness Anytime blends the warm, introspective vibe of Bridges’ 2015 album Coming Home with the light‑hearted, adventurous spirit he explored with Khruangbin. In an Instagram post, the singer‑songwriter described the new record as a “feel‑good” antidote for listeners who feel burned out or disillusioned. He wrote, “For me, happiness is not a feeling that you chase. I want this album to be something that lingers with people and lingers in people’s bones. There’s this feeling that we have to fix the problems of the world; you feel inadequate or it can be debilitating. My role is to be light. I hope that comes across with this album.”

The partnership with Jungle’s J Lloyd‑Watson and Lydia Kitto began after a trio of studio sessions that also brought in Pino Palladino. Bridges noted that the writing process was concise, with the majority of the material produced in just a few sessions.

Happiness Anytime follows Bridges’ 2024 release Leon, which he described as a “long‑time coming.” He has also recently teamed with Norah Jones on the festive single “This Christmas I’m Coming Home,” a nod to his breakout track Coming Home. The new album represents the next chapter in Bridges’ evolving sound, which has spanned soul, R&B, and folk influences.

The album’s release date is confirmed for September 15, and pre‑orders are now available through Columbia’s distribution channels. Fans can look forward to the remaining EP releases in the coming weeks, while Bridges will continue to perform in select venues leading up to the album’s launch.
