David Spencer Extends Exclusive Publishing Deal With Essential Music Publishing
In a move that cements his standing in both Christian and pop music circles, Nashville‑based songwriter and producer David Spencer has renewed an exclusive publishing partnership with Essential Music Publishing, according to a July 6, 2026 announcement.
Spencer’s catalog—already eclipsing one billion streams—continues to dominate Christian radio, the Billboard charts, and high‑profile sync placements. The renewed agreement keeps the partnership alive as Spencer is slated to contribute to several major releases in 2026. He co‑wrote and produced Carly Simon’s new single “Howl,” the lead track from her forthcoming album Comes in Waves, due on August 14. The single, released on June 11, marks Simon’s first album of original material in 18 years.
Beyond Simon, Spencer’s fingerprints appear on Jo Dee Messina’s album Bridges and on the debut LP of breakout viral act Neoni, which is being issued through Virgin Music Group. In 2023, he earned ASCAP Song of the Year honors for “In Jesus Name (God of Possible),” a nine‑week No. 1 that set a record for the longest‑running debut single by a female artist in contemporary Christian music history. He followed that with another No. 1, “Who I Am” by Ben Fuller. Other cuts—such as Seph Schlueter’s “Jesus Loves,” Jamie McDonald’s “Sanctus Real,” and Zach Williams’ work—have all charted on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs list.
Spencer’s influence extends beyond the charts. He is a key writing and producing partner for Neoni, helping shape the duo’s evolving sound and global reach. The Gold‑certified single “Darkside” marked a breakout moment for the act, and Spencer’s ongoing collaboration continues to define Neoni’s musical identity.
His work has also been featured in major cultural moments. Spencer’s compositions were used in the Super Bowl broadcast and in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Most recently, he secured a worldwide sync placement with Adobe for the track “Pocket Size” by Sansol the Artist, underscoring his continued impact across both creative and commercial spaces.
Jamie Rogers, Vice President of Essential Music Publishing, said the partnership would continue to grow. “It’s no surprise that David has risen to be one of the most sought‑after writers and producers across CCM, country, and sync – his talent has always been undeniable,” Rogers said. “But beyond the accolades, David is simply someone you love being in this business with. We’re genuinely excited and deeply grateful to extend our partnership with him, and we couldn’t be more honored to run alongside him as he continues to create genre‑defining music.”
Founded in 2014, Essential Music Publishing represents a roster of songwriters and producers who have achieved success across multiple genres. The company’s focus on strategic placement and artist development aligns with Spencer’s track record of chart‑winning songs and high‑profile sync deals.
The renewed deal positions Spencer to continue contributing to a diverse slate of projects in 2026 and beyond. With a catalog that spans CCM, country, pop, and viral indie releases, his partnership with Essential Music Publishing is expected to generate additional radio play, streaming traction, and licensing opportunities.
As of the announcement, Spencer’s next projects include the release of Carly Simon’s Comes in Waves, Jo Dee Messina’s Bridges, and Neoni’s debut album. No further dates or additional releases were disclosed.
The extension confirms that Essential Music Publishing remains committed to supporting high‑profile songwriters who deliver both commercial success and artistic innovation.
