Bitwig Studio 6.1 Beta Unveils Advanced Sampler, New Play Modes and Free Update for Upgrade Plan Holders
Bitwig GmbH rolled out the 6.1 beta of its flagship digital audio workstation on 18 June 2026. The upgrade is free for anyone with an active 12‑month Upgrade Plan that covers Bitwig Studio, Producer and Essentials editions.
The centerpiece of the update is a reworked Sampler. The new engine introduces an advanced slicing function that operates across all play modes, enabling producers to divide samples quickly and flexibly. Two fresh play modes—Spectral, which time‑stretches audio through spectral analysis, and Fragments, a granular mode that slices samples into micro‑grains—expand the Sampler’s sonic palette. Existing modes have also been refined, with more authentic hardware emulation and expanded modulation options. Automatic tempo and pitch detection are now baked into the Sampler, unlocking workflows that were previously unavailable.
Additional Sampler enhancements include improved multisample editing, a new bell filter, and the ability to loop slices with per‑slice modulation. The device also offers harmonic bending, synth‑style play modes, and granular playback options, giving creators a broader range of expressive tools.
A new Tuner device now ships with all Bitwig editions, providing real‑time pitch detection and display to complement the Sampler’s capabilities.
The beta is available for Windows, macOS and Linux. Registered users can download it from the Bitwig account dashboard. The forthcoming stable 6.1 release will carry the same Sampler upgrades, while the Producer and Essentials editions will receive only the Tuner, not the Spectral and Fragments modes.
Bitwig plans to ship the final 6.1 version in the summer of 2026. Until then, beta testers can explore the new features and submit feedback.
During the same period, Bitwig is running a Summer Sale. New customers can purchase any edition of Bitwig Studio at a 25 % discount through the Bitwig store and authorized distributors such as Plugin Boutique and AudioDeluxe. The promotion ends on 4 August 2026.
The update follows Bitwig’s 2025 launch of Studio 6, which introduced a modular workflow and a new clip‑based arrangement view. The 6.1 beta builds on that foundation by deepening the Sampler’s functionality, a core instrument for many producers.
In short, Bitwig Studio 6.1 beta offers a free, feature‑rich update for Upgrade Plan holders, focusing on an expanded Sampler, new play modes, and interface refinements. The full release is slated for summer 2026, and a 25 % discount remains available for new purchases until early August.
The current situation is that the beta is live for registered users, the stable release is scheduled for summer, and the Summer Sale discount will expire on 4 August 2026.
