Apple Unveils AI-Powered Siri in iOS 27, Expanding Apple Music Control

Apple announced at its June 8, 2026 WWDC keynote that iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS Golden Gate, watchOS 27, tvOS 27 and visionOS 27 will ship with a new version of Siri built on Apple Intelligence. The update, which is currently in developer beta, replaces the older Siri with a conversational model that can read a user’s emails, calendar, messages and files to provide context‑aware answers.

The new Siri, dubbed “Siri AI,” is powered by on‑device and server‑side models that include Google Gemini, a partnership announced in January 2026. Apple said the model can perform reasoning tasks, such as identifying which songs from a specific album were performed during a particular tour, and can add those tracks to an Apple Music playlist with a single voice command.

Early testers of the iOS 27 developer beta reported that Siri AI can answer detailed questions about artists. For example, a user asked for songs from Taylor Swift’s Lover album that appeared in the Eras Tour setlist. Siri AI identified all five tracks that were played in the main set, excluding acoustic versions, and created a new playlist in Apple Music. The assistant also answered questions about Swift’s recent activities, including attendance at the NBA Finals and a new soundtrack release.

Apple Music integration is a key focus of the update. While the original Siri could play a single song or an artist’s catalog, the new assistant can interpret complex queries, search Apple Music’s metadata and external knowledge bases, and execute actions such as adding songs to a queue or creating a playlist on the fly. This capability mirrors Apple’s existing Playlist Playground feature but adds voice‑controlled precision.

Apple announced that the iOS 27 developer beta will be available to developers on June 8, 2026, with a public beta slated for July. The final release is expected in the fall, in line with Apple’s typical schedule. The update will be available on devices that support Apple Intelligence: iPhone 15 Pro or later, iPads with the M1 chip or newer, Macs with Apple silicon, and Apple Vision Pro. Apple noted that the new Siri will be unavailable in the European Union at launch because the Digital Markets Act requires a separate review.

Apple’s statement on the EU delay said that the company would ship Siri AI to macOS 27, visionOS 27 and watchOS 27 in the EU, but iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 would be delayed. The company said it was working with regulators to meet the DMA requirements.

The Apple Intelligence framework, introduced in 2024, provides a suite of on‑device AI tools that can be used by third‑party apps. Siri AI is the first consumer‑facing feature to leverage the framework’s language models. Apple said the assistant can operate offline for many tasks, reducing reliance on cloud services.

Industry observers note that the upgrade positions Apple to compete more directly with other conversational assistants that have integrated large‑language models. The company’s partnership with Google for Gemini is a strategic move to accelerate the development of its AI stack.

At this stage, the Siri AI update remains in beta. Apple has not announced a specific release date for the public beta beyond July, nor has it disclosed any pricing changes. The company also has not indicated whether the new assistant will support additional languages beyond English.

In summary, Apple’s iOS 27 introduces a fully AI‑powered Siri that can understand and act on complex music‑related requests, create playlists, and answer detailed artist questions. The update will launch in the fall on devices that support Apple Intelligence, with a delayed EU release for iOS and iPadOS due to regulatory requirements.
