Bangalores Rangoli Metro Art Centre to Host World Music Day Celebration on June 21

On June 21, the bustling heart of Bangalore’s MG Road corridor will transform into a living concert hall as the Rangoli Metro Art Centre (RMAC) opens its doors to the city’s diverse music community. The event, organized by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), will offer an open stage that welcomes musicians and listeners from all walks of life, turning a transit hub into a cultural gathering place.

Located just steps from the MG Road metro station, RMAC has long served as a nexus for visual and performing arts. Its three spacious courtyards provide a flexible backdrop for solo acts, duos, and larger ensembles, allowing the venue to adapt to the varied needs of performers. The World Music Day program will showcase a wide spectrum of genres—including Indian classical, Carnatic, Hindustani, jazz, blues, pop, rock, folk, fusion, and contemporary music—reflecting Bangalore’s eclectic musical landscape.

BMRCL’s decision to host the celebration aligns with the corporation’s broader cultural outreach strategy. By leveraging the metro network as a platform for community engagement, BMRCL aims to bring the arts directly to commuters and residents who frequent the busy MG Road corridor. The all‑day event will feature performances scheduled throughout the afternoon and evening, ensuring that the rhythm of the city’s pulse is accompanied by a rich tapestry of sound.

A centerpiece of the day will be a Community Drum Jam led by percussionists Vasundhara Das and Roberto Narain. The jam is designed to bring together musicians of diverse styles in a collaborative session that encourages spontaneous creation and cross‑genre dialogue. The recording of this session will be made available for later distribution, extending the reach of the event beyond the immediate audience.

Musicians who wish to perform must register by submitting details of their performance, genre, and duration. Slots will be allocated on a first‑come, first‑served basis, subject to availability. Registration can be completed by emailing rangoli@bmrc.co.in or by visiting RMAC between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. The registration window will close at 5 p.m. on 19 June.

The initiative underscores BMRCL’s commitment to integrating cultural activities into the daily life of Bangalore’s commuters and residents. By situating the celebration near the MG Road station, the corporation seeks to make music accessible to a broad audience, reinforcing the metro’s role as a civic space beyond transportation.

RMAC’s administration office can be contacted at 080‑22969265 for further information. The centre has previously hosted exhibitions and performances, including a 2023 showcase of contemporary artists and a 2025 national festival of art. The World Music Day event adds to a growing roster of cultural programming that BMRCL has introduced in recent years.

The event is scheduled for 21 June, with registration closing on 19 June. Musicians who secure a slot will perform during the day‑long program, which will culminate in the Community Drum Jam. BMRCL’s initiative demonstrates its ongoing effort to weave cultural experiences into the fabric of Bangalore’s daily commute, affirming the metro’s place as a catalyst for artistic engagement.
