1950: South Pacific: Wonderful Guy
- Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II are the reason musical theater exists today as we know it with their inception of the book musical. South Pacific scored this team their first Tony Award. This is another show that was ahead of its time dealing with racial issues. Wonderful Guy is sung by leading lady Nellie Forbush. She sings this song after being convinced by her friends that despite the racial differences between her and Emile, there is good in him, and she is thrilled to be in love with him. I have loved this song for as long as I can remember.
